Photos | Kennedy K's 11 to power Simpson past Winston 7-0
MENDENHALL — Sophomore Ben Kennedy struck out 11 batters to lead Simpson Academy to a 7-0 win over Winston Academy as the Cougars swept both games of their MAIS 5A playoff series.
Kennedy gave up just five hits and one walk over 6 2/3 innings of shutout ball. The win improves Simpson's record to 34-2 this season as Kennedy stayed undefeated at 7-0 in nine appearances.
Braden Duncan got the game's final out on a strikeout.
Matt Adcock, Barrett McKenney and Aubren Kennedy each had two hits for Simpson. McKenney drove in two runs, as did Crosby Mullins.
Bryson Wright took the loss for Winston allowing seven runs on ten hits in 4 1/3 innings.
Simpson advances to the MAIS 5A North State Championship series where they will face Magnolia Heights next week.
