The Mississippi Gridiron MACCC Team of the Week for week one, presented by SoundCom, includes two players each from Northeast and Northwest as both teams picked up wins in week one.
OFFENSE
Quarterback, Pat McQuaide / Gulf Coast
Gulf Coast quarterback Pat McQuaide completed 24 of 47 passes for 277 yards with two touchdowns and no interceptions in a 28-24 loss to Northwest.
All-Purpose, Robert Henry / Jones College
Jones College running back Robert Henry rushed 18 times for 190 yards and four touchdowns in a 44-0 win over Itawamba. Henry also had four receptions for 27 yards. His four touchdowns were the first four scores of the game, giving Jones College an early 27-0 lead.
Running Back, Jamarien Bracey / Northwest
Northwest running back Jamarien Bracey finished with 25 rushes for 123 yards and a touchdown in a 28-24 win over Gulf Coast. Bracey scored on a six-yard run in the second quarter.
Wide Receiver, Ja'Coby Matthews / Southwest
Southwest wide receiver Ja'Coby Matthews had three receptions for 114 yards and a touchdown in a 50-0 win over Mississippi Delta.
DEFENSE
Defensive Line, Jykeveous Hibbler / Northwest
Northwest defensive lineman Jykeveous Hibbler finished with five tackles including 3.5 tackles for loss and 1.5 sacks as Northwest won over Gulf Coast 28-24.
Linebacker, C. J. Barney / Northeast
Northeast linebacker C. J. Barney had a big night in a 20-3 win over Hinds. Barney finished the game with eight tackles, a tackle for loss, forced a fumble and broke up a pass.
Defensive Back, Ty'Verius Nichols / Hinds
Hinds defensive back Ty'Verius Nichols had a pair of interceptions and a pair of tackles in a 20-3 loss to Northeast.
SPECIAL TEAMS
Kicker, Guy Gillespie / Northeast
Northeast placekicker Guy Gillespie was good on both of his field goal attempts from 32 and 21 yards in a 20-3 win over Hinds. Gillespie was also 2 of 2 on extra point attempts.
