Raleigh senior athlete Suntarine Perkins is our pick for the 2022 Mississippi Gridiron Player of the Year.
Perkins (6-3, 200) was the most dominant player in Mississippi as he performed in every phase of the game, leading Raleigh to the 3A State Championship. As a linebacker, Perkins had 92 tackles with five sacks and four interceptions. He recovered four fumbles and caused another.
On the offensive side of the ball, the Ole Miss signee rushed for 2,078 yards on 170 carries with 32 touchdowns. He rushed 32 times for 334 yards and four touchdowns in the State Championship win over Noxubee County. He also converted 26 two-point conversions and made 26-42 extra points.
Perkins is currently ranked as the nation's No. 35 overall player according to the industry-generated 247Sports Composite ranking. He is also ranked as the nation's No. 2 linebacker and the No. 1 player from the state of Mississippi. (247Sports profile)
